  • What better way to celebrate Texas Independence Day than with a true Texas country singer? Gene Watson was born in Palestine and raised in Paris, Texas. In 1963 he moved to Houston and started performing in local dance halls. By day he worked in an auto body shop. After a decade of paying his dues, Capitol Records signed him after hearing his self-released song Love in a Hot Afternoon, which reached Number 3 on the Billboard Country Charts. He continued releasing hit songs for the next 20 years, including Where Love Begins, Should I Go Home (or Should I Go Crazy) and Farewell Party. He became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2020.
