The historic Comal hotel structure was planned in 1897 and built in 1898-1990 by New Braunfels builder Christian Herry, after the site had been cleared by removal of the dwelling built by Joseph Klein. The hotel was situated on the corner of East San Antonio and Market Streets. The hotel was built by Emilie Kuse Eggeling on property owned by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Kuse.
